Championship football (Ipswich v Norwich) was shown for the first time in Singapore on 19th November 2006. It was broadcast live on cable tv channel 24. Hopefully this means fans in Singapore will be able to watch Saints play at least once before the season is over.

Bale For Wales
Gareth Bale who just turned 17 (d.o.b. 16 July 1989) - the latest wonderkid to emerge from Saints Academy - started for Wales in a friendly played on 5 September 2006 against Brazil that had Ronaldinho and Kaka. Bale played the whole of the goalless first half as a young and inexperienced Welsh side fought hard to keep the Brazilians at bay.
The following sanguine commentary came from the usually robotic if not stoic BBC coverage:
"2017: Ronaldinho twice tries to get past Gareth Bale with some fancy moves but twice fails as the 17-year-old Welshman takes the ball off his toes. I bet he can't wait to give his friends a call after this match. 'Oh, sorry to interrupt your homework mate, just wanted to tell you what I did today.'
"2052: The second half gets under way with Edmilson giving way to Brazil team-mate and Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva. Disappointingly the impressive duo of Ryan Giggs and Gareth Bale have been replaced with Joe Ledley and Sam Ricketts.
"Wales started nervously but you expect that against Brazil. They settled really well and Duffy and Bale have got forward really well and created some chances - it's encouraging. Brazil have been spasmodic and Wales probably had the best chance in Earnshaw. Lee Dixon, Match of the Day" BBC link
Bale did not come out for the second half clearly to spare him possible burnout, something George Burley has warned about. Just as well as Brazil ran out the match 2-0.
