SAINTS TRUST

Open meeting re Saints Trust

There is an open meeting being held on Thursday night 23/6 to discuss the setting up of a supporters' trust, known as the Saints Trust. The meeting will introduce the principles and philosophy behind the supporters' trust movement and will culminate in a vote to decide whether the Trust will ultimately be set up.

The meeting starts at 8.00 p.m. (arrive for 7.30 p.m. if possible) at the Holiday Inn in Southampton. This invitation is open to any Saints fan that is interested in finding out about how a supporters' trust can work at our club. It is important to emphasise that you do not have to be an existing shareholder to attend this meeting.

The current working party has been toiling away behind the scenes for almost a year in conjunction with local supporters groups and Supporters Direct to bring this exciting initiative to fruition.

Supporters Direct is a government initiative funded by public money whose aim is to help people "who wish to play a responsible part in the life of the football club they support". They offer support, advice and information to groups of football supporters.

Supporters Direct will be present at the open meeting and representatives from the Trusts at both Ipswich Town and Reading have also been invited to speak. Those present will be available for a question-and-answer session as part of the meeting.

It's important that as many people as possible who back the idea of a democratic supporters' trust attend this meeting. The vote is by no means the formality it may appear to be, so it's vital that there are suitable numbers in attendance to make sure this vote is carried.
