Year I got hooked on Saints 1990
Why Saints The first EPL match I ever saw was Arsenal-Southampton, and both sides played attractive football. So I have been hooked to these two clubs ever since.
What I expect of SingaSaints Basically SingaSaints should operate like any other overseas supporters club: be an affiliate of Southampton FC, organise tours to Southampton and perhaps contests for Saints fans in Singapore to win tickets to a Saints game. Of course this will not be easy, as a proper system would have to be put in place and, more importantly, maintained. The idea of organising weekend kickabouts is pretty good and should be continued.
What I want to see on this site The usual stuff: information about Saints, how SingaSaints was formed, how fans can join us, forums, latest news on the EPL as well as Saints team news, player profiles(with pictures please!), freelance articles e.g. the latest instalment of the Delgado fiasco.
Nationality Singaporean but maybe we should also admit foreigners living in Singapore. [Ed. We do.]
P.S. Setting up an official fan club isn't easy, especially not an overseas fan club based in Singapore. Many of us fans are students who don't have the practical experience of running a fan club. The meagre support Saints enjoys around the world, not to mention in Singapore, isn't helpful either. Of course SingaSaints doesn't have to be officially recognised; being semi-official (like now) isn't bad and probably a whole load more fun, although we'd then miss out on certain benefits e.g. discounts on merchandise and priority booking.
My personal preference is not to go official. I'd rather we do it 'our way' than face pressure from Southampton FC to do this and that, that and this, with all the attendant 'external restrictions'.
Imho Saints overachieved last season. We'll be fighting in the bottom six this season. Although we made a profit last season, it still isn't enough to purchase/attract quality players to our club. Struggle, struggle, struggle - that's what we'll be doing again. Just my two cents' worth.
