Saint Shaun

Name Shaun Warren

Nickname Bart

Fav Players Favourite ex-Saint is Steve Williams, one of the most under-rated midfield players ever. Tiss was a legend in his own lifetime. Keegan was also a favourite, broke my heart when he went to Newcastle. Mick Channon and Ivan Golac were other heroes of mine. Current favourite is Marian Pahars.

Year I got hooked on Saints I started to show an interest probably around '74 or '75 but probably '76 was when I got really hooked, I was eight at the time. I still remember going into the city with my uncle to see the open-top bus and the FA Cup being paraded. First game at the Dell was about a year later when we drew with Oldham Athletic in the Second Division. We got promoted that year I seem to remember. The season after I got my first season ticket. I missed the first few games of the season and my first game that season was Mick Channon's first game back after Man City. We beat Spurs 5-2. I remember Phil Boyer scoring and Mick but can't remember who else scored.

Why Saints Born in Southampton

What I expect of SingaSaints Chance to meet other Saints fans on a regular basis.

What I want to see on this site Toughie, there are so many resources on the internet these days, would like to see something that is unique to Singapore Saints. I think it is fantastic that there are so many avid Saints fans here.

Nationality British

Saints' best 11 (or 12)

  • Goalkeeper Tim Flowers:- Marginally edges Shilts in my opinion, although Ivan Katalinic should get a mention for that moustache alone.

  • Defenders Mark Dennis:- Complete psycho. Mark Wright:- At nineteen years old thought he was going to develop into the best defender ever. Was never the same after he broke his leg. Dave Watson:- Hmm another toughie. Chris Nicholl and Dave were both rocks in defence. Ivan Golac:- Best defensive winger in the game. Will always remember the first goal he scored for Saints against WBA.

  • Midfielders Steve Williams:- See above, when he was up for it - pure class. Jimmy Case:- Similar player to Williams in some respect. With him, Williams and Dennis in the same team we could have finished some matches with 8 players. Le God:- There has never been nor will there ever be another player like him. Probably the most frustrating player I have ever watched, but could turn the game in two seconds and those freekicks, pure genius!

  • Forwards King Kev:- Couldn't believe it when it was announced that we were signing the England Captain and current European Footballer of the Year. Can you imagine us ever signing a Zidane these days because Keegan was the equivalent at the time. Steve Moran:- For a season and a half him and Keegan were the most prolific strike partnership in old First Division. In those two years before his back injury was probably the best finisher in the English game and could move like lightning. Alan Shearer:- Probably more for what he did after Saints than whilst he was there. But still a fantastic player.

  • Sub Mick Channon:- Never seemed to run any faster than a jog, but still a fantastic player and a nice bloke to boot.

Most magical moment as a Saints fan Was too young to really appreciate what the FA Cup meant at the time. I have had several fantastic moments. I remember Fat Kev's (Davies) goal at Everton a few years ago, was a special moment. Winning on penalties at Old Trafford in the FA Cup, beating P#mpey in the FA Cup with a last-minute goal and hammering Liverpool 4-1 (could easily have been 2-3) at the Dell. However probably my most memorable game was about 7 years ago when we were 1-0 down to Newcastle at the Dell with 2 minutes to go. Saints had been awful. However we scored 3 goals in the last 2 minutes (Le Tissier, Shipperly and Watson) and took all 3 points.

Worst moment as a Saints fan Think it was in '84 when Saints played Everton at Highbury in the FA Cup Semi-Final and Adrian Heath scored in extra time. We were definitely the best side on the day. Neville Southall was outstanding that day.
